Joachim Trier — Events in Cyprus
Joachim Trier is one of the most acclaimed filmmakers to emerge from Scandinavia in the 21st century. Born in Copenhagen in 1974 and raised in Norway, Trier studied at the National Film and Television School in London before making his feature debut with Reprise (2006), which announced him as a major new voice in European cinema. His subsequent films — Oslo, 31 August (2011), Louder Than Bombs (2015), Thelma (2017), and The Worst Person in the World (2021) — have screened at Cannes, won numerous international awards, and cemented his reputation as a director of exceptional emotional intelligence and visual craft. The Worst Person in the World earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay and made lead actress Renate Reinsve a global name. Trier's appearance at the Georghios Lykourgos Municipal Theatre of Larnaca — one of Cyprus's most important cultural venues — as part of a film programme or Q&A event brought an internationally celebrated cinematic voice to the island's cultural calendar.
