One New Year's Eve party in Cyprus is on sale so far for Thursday 31 December 2026: the cabaret and countdown at Diamonds Showbar in Ayia Napa, from 19:00, €35. The biggest crowds go to the free council parties. Last year Limassol sang the year out on Grigoris Afxentiou Square and Larnaca counted down on the seafront with fireworks. Venues announce from November, so this list grows every week.

Parties with tickets
Thu 31 Dec, 19:00, Diamonds Show Bar, Ayia Napa, €35. A drag cabaret headlined by Scarlett Harlett from RuPaul's Drag Race UK, with a buffet, a raffle and a glass of bubbly at midnight in the ticket. Tables go in booking order, so the first bookings sit nearest the stage.

Free countdowns in the town squares
Most people here see the year out at a free open-air party run by the town council. None of the 2026 programmes is out yet. This is what happened on 31 December 2025.
Limassol moved its party to Grigoris Afxentiou Square on Anexartisias Street. It started at 21:00 with a Broadway show, and at 23:00 four Cypriot singers and an eight-piece band took the stage for the farewell to the old year (oloi.cy). The published programme listed no fireworks.
Larnaca counted down on the Finikoudes seafront: a DJ from 23:00, fireworks at midnight, free entry, finished by 01:00 (Larnaka Tourism Board).
Nicosia puts its big public evening into the Christmas tree lighting in November. We found no council countdown on 31 December in recent years.
For Paphos, Ayia Napa and Protaras we found no council programme for New Year's Eve 2025. Each one goes on this page the day it is announced.
Fireworks on New Year's Eve
Larnaca is the one town where we could confirm public fireworks at midnight last year, over the Finikoudes seafront. No town has confirmed fireworks for 2026 yet. Private fireworks at hotels or beach bars are not listed here until the venue announces them.
Getting home after midnight
We found no extra night buses on past New Year's Eves, so do not plan on a bus after the countdown. Book a taxi before the night, or agree who drives and stays sober. Police step up drink-driving checks over the holidays: in 2025 they ran from 22 December to 6 January, and on one Saturday night they breath-tested 470 drivers and caught 49 over the limit (Cyprus Mail).
With children: the days around New Year
New Year's Day and 6 January are public holidays, and the nine Christmas villages stay open until Wednesday 6 January 2027. Last season they opened every day from 21 December, which makes a day in Lefkara or Agros on 1 January easy. The 2026 hours are not out yet.
Two Russian-language New Year shows for children play the Ypsonas Municipal Theatre near Limassol on Saturday 12 December: New Year's Adventures at 11:30 and New Year's Tree at 17:00.

Vasilopita and New Year customs in Cyprus
The Cypriot vasilopita is a sesame bread, not a sweet cake, with a coin baked inside. The family cuts it on New Year's Day: the first slices go to Christ and Saint Basil, then to the house, then to everyone at the table, and whoever finds the coin has the luck of the year.
On New Year's Eve many homes lay a small table for Agios Vasilis with the vasilopita, a candle and wine. Children sing the New Year carols, the kalanta. On 1 January people break a pomegranate at the front door for luck and watch who comes in first: the "podariko", the first foot over the doorstep, should be the right one.
Bottom line
If you want a ticketed night, book Diamonds now: it is the only New Year's Eve party on sale so far and its tables go in booking order. If you want a free night out, Larnaca's seafront had both the countdown and the fireworks last year.
