Giorgos Dalaras is widely regarded as the greatest living voice in Greek music — a singer whose six-decade career has made him not merely a popular artist but a cultural institution. Born in Piraeus in 1949, Dalaras emerged from the rebetiko and laiko tradition under the mentorship of legendary composers Mikis Theodorakis and Manos Hadjidakis, and has since become the best-selling Greek recording artist of all time with a discography exceeding 80 albums. His music spans laiko, rebetiko, Greek folk, Mediterranean world music, and flamenco, and his collaborations with international artists including Mercedes Sosa and Al Di Meola have made him an ambassador for Greek music worldwide. He has performed at Carnegie Hall and the Royal Albert Hall. His performances at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre and Pattihio Theatre in Cyprus were landmark cultural events.
