    About This Event

📍One of the most powerful moments of the contemporary stage! Five years ago it moved us, captivated us, thrilled us. Now it returns in a new production with the same force, for those who didn't manage to see it and for those who did and want to experience it again!

🎭 A unique modern Greek play that premiered nationwide at Anemona Theatre in February 2021, in the midst of the pandemic crisis and under strict restrictive measures. Anemona presented, in a national premiere, Irene Marantei's purely biographical play and the tragic fate of the leading Greek sculptor Yannoulis Chalepas, receiving the most laudatory comments from audiences.

💥"The Sleeping Woman of Chalepas" returns from February to the Anemona Theatre stage for a short run of performances, once again bearing the directorial signature of Andreas Tilemachou, who also has overall supervision of the production and plays the emblematic artist, shouldering again the particular weight of a very demanding role✨

    EXTENSION: 2 ADDITIONAL PERFORMANCES

🔹A chronology that records the "fascinating" life of the legendary visual artist between madness and triumph. Marantei narrates his charming, bitter and enigmatic life and Andreas Tilemachou, through enchanting directorial journeys, follows the titan of sculpture through all his significant "stations", from 1876 when, returning from Munich to Athens, he opens his own studio and begins to work on his most famous classical-period sculpture, the "Sleeping Woman" - which remains the most marvellous sculptural work of modern Athens - up to 1930 when he returns again to Athens after his enforced "exile" in Tinos, while Tilemachou in performance also embodies Chalepas's continuous struggle against discouragement and spiritual abuse, madness and despair..

📜They wrote that Chalepas was "Sculptor of the Soul", "Poet of Marble", they called him "Saint Chalepas", "Artist of Light".
