CyFi Fest Brings Genre Cinema to the Big Screen in Nicosia
20–22 February 2026 | Pantheon Cinema
Cyprus’ first dedicated genre film festival, CyFi Fest, will take place from 20 to 22 February 2026 at the historic Pantheon Cinema in Nicosia, celebrating the imaginative power and cultural impact of genre cinema. Focused on science fiction, fantasy, horror, thrillers, and fan films, CyFi Fest positions genre storytelling at the centre of the cinematic experience, presenting a curated programme that combines retrospective screenings of classic films, national premieres, and new short films competing for the Audience Award.
Across the three-day festival, audiences can expect two feature films per day, alongside one daily short film programme, showcasing both established works and emerging voices from Cyprus and abroad.
WHY CYFI FEST MATTERS: Genre cinema has always been a space for imagination, social reflection, and bold creative risk. CyFi Fest was created to give these stories the cinematic respect they deserve, on the big screen and in a shared communal setting. At a time when genre films are often consumed in isolation, CyFi Fest brings audiences together to experience them as they were meant to be seen: collectively, loudly, and passionately. By combining classic retrospectives with contemporary premieres and new voices, the festival aims to build a bridge between generations of genre fans and filmmakers.
CyFi Fest also seeks to nurture a local genre community in Cyprus, encouraging dialogue between creators, audiences, and international professionals, while positioning the island as an emerging hub for genre culture in the Mediterranean.
Importantly, CyFi Fest also marks the 10th anniversary of GeekOtopos’ nerdy activities, celebrating a decade of initiatives dedicated to pop culture, fandom, and creative community-building in Cyprus.
Beyond the screen, CyFi Fest expands into a broader pop-culture celebration with parallel events including cosplay, board games, trivia nights, video game tournaments, and selected vendors, creating an inclusive and participatory festival atmosphere. The festival will also host masterclasses with internationally acclaimed filmmakers, offering audiences and professionals insight into genre filmmaking, storytelling, and the creative process.
