What happens when a curious girl follows the White Rabbit down a hole? She finds herself in a world where logic dissolves, time runs backwards, and flowers can talk. And it is there, amid the nonsense and absurdity, that she finds herself.
About the performance:
Ballet Philippines' Alice in Wonderland is not a film adaptation of the cartoon or a retelling of the book. It is a poetic journey through the imagination, created by choreographer Mikhail Martynyuk as a metaphor for growing up and inner growth. Alice does not grow bigger here — she grows smaller. The wonders around her are grand, but she herself remains a little girl who is learning not to be afraid of the unknown.
The stage is filled with Lewis Carroll's world: a mad tea party with the Hatter and the March Hare, a garden of talking flowers, croquet with flamingos, the Red Queen's court, and, of course, the elusive White Rabbit — a mysterious guide who appears in every scene.
Music and choreography:
The performance is set to the music of Claude Debussy, soft and airy, as if woven from light and shadows. It does not sound like a typical ballet: there are no loud fanfares or solemn marches. Instead, there are smooth transitions that are sometimes soothing, sometimes unexpectedly whirling into a whirlwind of adventure. This is exactly the kind of music needed for Wonderland, where nothing is what it seems.
Martynyuk's choreography combines classical ballet with contemporary dance: technically flawless, visually captivating, and emotionally accessible to audiences of all ages.
For the whole family, including the youngest members:
This performance is designed to be loved by children from a very young age. Bright costumes, the fluffy striped Cheshire Cat, the fiery red Queen, and the golden Alice hold the audience's attention from the first minute to the last. Each scene is full of action, humor, and unexpected twists that will keep even the most restless viewers entertained.
At the same time, adults will find their own layer in the play: a story about courage, about how important it is to remain yourself, even when the whole world around you seems crazy.
No preparation is necessary, as every child on the planet knows the story of Alice. Bring the whole family: this is one of those evenings that children will remember for a long time.
Duration: ~2 hours with an intermission.
Recommended age: 4 years and older.
