• How did changes in the perception of sex affect the development of fashion in the 20th century?
• What were the canons of male and female beauty in the last century?
In his speeches, Alexander Vasilyev touches on topics that are as delicate as they are provocative: sex, eroticism, and gender relations. He examines how religion, philosophy, cultural and sexual revolutions, as well as the evolution of gender roles, influenced the formation and development of fashion.
• What is fashion in this context—a trick, a ruse, the art of seduction?
• How were feminism and machismo of different eras reflected in style?
Alexander Vasilyev offers a new perspective on fashion—the perspective of an attentive and experienced historian through the prism of 20th-century social mores.
