Compositions in Nature

Inspired by the enlarging process and how magnified images mirror shapes and forms usually seen on a grander scale, Pamela Calver took stills from Katherine Roucoux’s Heaven and Earth* and created a series of fantastical dreamscapes of mixed-media collages on canvas, using paper, acrylics, charcoal, and ink. In the composition process, by removing colour and playing with scale, place and time, Pamela unified Roucoux’s images and allowed new visual narratives to form.

Inspired by Katherine Roucoux’s Heaven and Earth, Pamela Calver uses mixed media to reveal the striking parallels between microscopic details and the cosmos. By manipulating scale and removing color, the artist unifies diverse natural forms—from river deltas to human blood vessels—creating new visual narratives on canvas.
The series, developed under the guidance of Nina Sumarac Jablonsky, invites viewers to appreciate the hidden complexity of nature. Through these works, Calver highlights the interdependence of all living things and calls for the protection of our fragile world.
