Verka Serduchka is the drag persona of Ukrainian comedian and performer Andriy Danylko, born in Poltava in 1973, who has become one of the most beloved and recognisable entertainers in the post-Soviet world. Emerging through Ukrainian television comedy in the 1990s, the character of Verka — a cheerfully incompetent train conductor with an enormous hat — became a cultural phenomenon, spawning albums, films, and sold-out tours. Verka Serduchka represented Ukraine at the Eurovision Song Contest 2007 in Helsinki with the song Dancing Lasha Tumbai, finishing second and becoming a pan-European fan favourite. Danylko's performances as Verka are spectacular, high-energy shows combining drag aesthetics with comedy, pop music, and genuine star quality. Her appearance at ETKO Hangar in Limassol was a joyful and memorable event for Cyprus's audiences.
