This theatrical adaptation of Louiza Papaloizou's award-winning novel To Vouni comes to the Rialto Theatre in Limassol, Cyprus across three performances on Friday, May 8, Saturday, May 9, and Sunday, May 10, 2026 at 20:00. Directed and adapted by Maria Kyriakou and produced by À Vendre Theatre Group & Humart, the production features a cast of twelve actors and runs for 104 minutes. Recommended for audiences aged 15 and above.
Set around a mountain in a remote part of Cyprus, the story follows three characters — Xenis, the Daughter, and the Swede — across a narrative arc stretching from the early 20th century to the early 1970s. The production draws on two richly layered historical contexts: the suffocating social environment of mountainous rural Cyprus and the archaeological excavations carried out by the Swedish Mission in the Soli area during the British colonial period. Memory, loss, and the search for identity are at the heart of the work, rendered through a poetic and contemporary stage language.
Papaloizou's novel was honoured in 2021 with both the Cyprus State Prize for Fiction and, jointly, the Greek State Prize for Fiction — testimony to its reach and resonance across readers and critics. The stage production brings together a strong creative team to translate that literary power into live performance.
