Goat-and-sheep haloumi is considered the hallmark of authentic Cypriot cuisine and the island’s cultural traditions. Its history stretches back centuries, making it one of the oldest cheeses in the world. Haloumi is history; it is culture.
The picturesque village of Prastio Avdimou honors every aspect of halloumi’s history and culture by hosting a themed festival that offers interactive and hands-on activities and takes you on a gastronomic, historical, and religious journey.
In addition to rich traditional cuisine and live music, the festival offers the opportunity to visit the nearby chapel of St. John the Theologian, where Father Athinodoros will discuss the history and art of iconography.
The event is organized by the Community Council and all the village’s creative groups. The Ministry of Tourism is the Gold Sponsor.
