This award-winning Cypriot feature film screens at the Pantheon Cinema in Nicosia, Cyprus throughout April 2026. Directed by Emilios Avraam, «Smaragda – I Got Thick Skin and I Can't Jump» made its world premiere at the Tallinn Black Nights International Film Festival 2024 in the First Feature competition, and went on to win Best Cypriot Film and Best Performance for Niovi Charalambous at the Cyprus Film Days International Festival 2025. The film is in Greek with English subtitles.
Smaragda, 46, moves into her recently deceased mother's home in Ayia Napa while taking care of Bella, her guide dog. Facing environmental concerns, failed relationships, and a stagnant career, she finds herself working as a children's entertainer at a tourist resort and turning to social media — experiencing both the appeal of recognition and the pressure of public exposure. Through this unexpected new reality, she embarks on a journey of self-discovery, realising that with the support of her friends and her own inner strength, she can face whatever life brings her.
Written & Directed by: Emilios Avraam Cast: Niovi Charalambous, Foivos Papakostas, Eleni Sidera, Paris Erotokritou, Patrick Myles, Dante The Dog.
