The Anthesteria of Famagusta returns on Sunday 10 May 2026 at 16:00 along Kappari Avenue, Cyprus — a revived spring festival with deep historical roots, jointly organised by the Municipality of Famagusta and the Municipality of Paralimni-Deryneia. Free entry.
The Anthesteria of Famagusta is one of the most significant cultural institutions that took place in Famagusta before 1974, closely tied to the historical memory and cultural identity of the city. The event opens with a parade along Kappari Avenue — a route that serves as a natural extension connecting the free part of the Famagusta district with the currently occupied Kennedy Avenue in the city. The choice of location carries powerful symbolic weight, linking the present with the enduring memory of Famagusta. Following the parade, a cultural programme dedicated to spring, flowers, and the traditions of Famagusta will take place in the large car park along the avenue.
This joint initiative by the two municipalities revives a historic institution and pays tribute to an important cultural legacy of the region.
