“Stella,” 1955, by Mikhail Kakogiannis.
A Greek melodrama, a soulful hymn to freedom and love that reflects the spirit of the entire Greek people. The film’s heroine—the beautiful Stella—is as much a femme fatale as the infamous Carmen. According to her friend, she turns men’s heads, engages in frivolous romances, and then abandons her lovers without a second thought.
And these are not empty words or malicious gossip. Stella is a free spirit and turns down all potential suitors. She has no intention of getting married. No one can tame Stella, and her temperament awakens the predatory instinct in men.
The film is in Greek. On the 15th floor of the Leventis Tower.
