The GoetheKino: Questions of her Own series continues with a screening of the film “Lotte at the Bauhaus” (“Lotte am Bauhaus”), followed by a discussion with art theorist, writer, and curator Evagor Vanesis and artist Kyriaki Costa—with a focus on the connection to the Cypriot context.
Weimar, 1921. The life of 20-year-old Lotte Brendel seems already predetermined: the role of wife and mother alongside a man who will carry on the family trade. But for the creative and freedom-loving Lotte, such a path is not at all appealing. Her strict father believes that her passion for painting and craftsmanship should remain merely a hobby—after all, she is not one of those “crazy” Bauhaus artists that all of bourgeois Weimar is talking about.
The main character is a fictional character inspired by the artist Alma Zidhoff-Busch. Director: Gregor Schnitzler
The Questions of her Own project is supported by Phytorio, an association of visual artists and art theorists, and is part of the KunstRaumGoethe exhibition “Between Imagination and Hope” (April 17–June 5, 2026).
Free admission. Film in German with English subtitles. Discussion in English.
