The film offers an unusual tour through the halls of the Museum of Fine Arts in Leipzig (MdbK). The director invited a group of girls and young women aged 7 to 19 to share their thoughts and feelings as they looked at classical works of art—paintings and sculptures created by men over the centuries.
Main themes:
“The Female Gaze”: The girls comment on how women are depicted in the paintings (often as objects of beauty, victims, or mothers) and how this relates to their own lives.
Deconstructing the Classics: Young female viewers ask direct and sometimes uncomfortable questions about art, history, and gender roles, transforming the museum into a space for discussion.
Coming of Age: The film captures the process of critical thinking developing in a new generation.
