Alan Turing—an eccentric genius who played a key role in the victory in World War II. He managed to crack the highly complex German Enigma code, which allowed the Allies to anticipate the enemy’s plans.
However, his contribution remained classified for a long time. When Turing was tried for violating another “code”—the taboo against homosexuality—society did not know how much it owed him. The father of modern computer science was convicted and subjected to forced hormone therapy.
The play “The Man Who Broke the Code” tells the story of his life, fate, and legacy.
This production by Alpha Square is based on Hugh Whitemore’s play, adapted from Andrew Hodges’ book “Alan Turing: The Enigma.” Translation by Andreas Arauzos, directed by Eleni Anastasiou.
Derek Jacobi first played the role of Turing in 1986 in London’s West End, and later on Broadway.
