The European Union of National Institutes for Culture in Cyprus (EUNIC), in collaboration with the Society of Friends of Cinema, is proud to present an annual film series celebrating the diversity of European cinema throughout 2026.
As part of the series, the Goethe-Institut Cyprus presents the film “When It Will Be Like Never Before”. The film is based on the novel by Joachim Mayerhoff and directed by Sonja Heiss.
“When It Will Be Like Never Before”
Comedy. Germany, 2023. 116 min.
An incredibly funny yet deeply touching film about growing up under unusual circumstances. Joachim is the youngest son of the director of one of Germany’s largest psychiatric hospitals. He spends his childhood and youth on the hospital grounds, as their family home is located right there. For Joachim, the patients become almost like family. This coming-of-age film is a true ode to life in all its absurdity and transience.
