Louiza Papaloizou's award-winning novel is brought to the stage, adapted and directed by Maria Kyriakou, bringing to life the world of Xenis, the Daughter, and the Swede in a poetic setting where memory, loss, and the search for identity intersect.
Centered on a mountain in a remote area of Cyprus, the story of the three characters unfolds through a narrative that begins at the start of the 20th century and moves towards the early 1970s, shedding light on both the suffocating environment of mountainous Cyprus and the archaeological excavations of the Swedish Mission in the Soli area during the British colonial period.
Through contemporary dramaturgy and a cast of twelve talented actors, the performance transfers to the stage the language, atmosphere and emotional power of a book that has been widely read and much loved by readers and critics alike.
Louiza Papaloizou’s book was honoured in 2021 with the Cyprus State Prize for Fiction and, jointly, the Greek State Prize for Fiction.
