One of the sunniest and most fiery ballets in the world repertoire comes to Paphos as a complete three-act production. At its heart is the timeless love story of the barber Basilio and the beautiful Kitri, set against a Spain of street festivals, daring escapes, jealous fathers and a fearless knight who believes that dreamers always win.

Created in 1869 after the novel by Miguel de Cervantes, the ballet is famous for its Grand Pas de Deux — one of the summits of classical choreography and a genuine test of virtuosity. Whirlwind pirouettes, soaring jumps and breathtaking lifts hold the audience still, and the final variations bring the house down. Don Quixote is one of those rare ballets where the audience doesn't simply watch but reacts out loud, the way a crowd reacts at a great sporting event. In the Maribor production, choreographer Krzysztof Nowogrodzki revisits the work through the legacy of Gorsky and the virtuoso tradition of Nureyev and Baryshnikov, combining romance, wit and humanity.

Leading roles — soloists of the Bolshoi Theatre

Basilio is danced by Igor Tsvirko, Principal Dancer of the Bolshoi Theatre and Kitri is Kristina Kretova, Prima Ballerina of the Bolshoi Theatre. Both artists have performed in Cyprus before, and this time they take the castle stage in the leading roles of one of the most demanding ballets in the classical repertoire.

On stage

The company of the National Ballet of Slovenia (Ballet Maribor), under the artistic direction of Edward Clug, one of Europe's leading companies, with more than a century of history. Fifty dancers, over one hundred handmade costumes, and scenery brought from Maribor in two shipping containers.

DON QUIXOTE – BUS INFORMATION

26 September 2026 | Pafos Castle

All buses should arrive at Pafos Castle no later than 19:20. The performance starts at 20:00.

Ticket price includes: the journey from the departure city to Pafos Castle and the return journey from Pafos Castle back to the same city after the performance.

Bus capacity: either 20 or 55 passengers per city, depending on demand.

Important Information:

Passengers are kindly requested to arrive at the pick-up location at least 15 minutes before the scheduled departure time.

After the performance, all buses will depart from Pafos Castle at 22:30 and passengers will be returned to the same location where they were picked up.
