European Mobility Week 2026

About This Event
The Municipality of Limassol is once again taking part in European Mobility Week, which will take place from 16 to 22 September 2026.
European Mobility Week is the leading European initiative for promoting sustainable urban mobility. Its aim is to encourage local authorities and citizens to try and adopt safer, more sustainable and inclusive ways of getting around.
This year's event has "Mobility for Everyone" as its central message and places particular emphasis on intergenerational equity, highlighting the need for streets, public spaces and transport to be accessible and serve people of all ages and with different mobility needs.
As part of the Week, a series of activities is planned to promote walking, cycling, public transport, accessibility, road safety and the sustainable use of public space.
The main activity of the event will be Car-Free Day, which will take place on Sunday 20 September 2026, from 10:00 to 20:00, on Gladstonos Street.
The section of Gladstonos Street from the Pentadromos traffic lights, at its junction with Agias Zonis and Anexartisias streets, to its junction with Karaiskaki Street, will be temporarily closed to general motor traffic and transformed into a space for walking, cycling, play, creativity, meeting and participation.
As last year, Car-Free Day is being held under the slogan "Lao Lao", which this year evolves into the message "Limassol moves Lao Lao". The Cypriot expression "lao lao" means "slowly, slowly" and is an invitation to the public to leave the rush behind for a while, move at a gentler pace and experience the area in a different way.
The main event is co-organised by the Municipality of Limassol, the Limassol Tourism Board, Friends of the Earth Cyprus and OPU (Organization for Positive Urbanism).
The detailed programme for European Mobility Week 2026, individual activities, venues and participation information will be announced soon.
This page will be gradually updated with all official information and announcements. The public is invited to follow the Municipality of Limassol website and official communication channels for further updates.
