David and Goliath. A Play
About This Event
What happens when ordinary people have to take on giants?
The story of David and Goliath—one of the most famous tales in the Old Testament—has long been a symbol of the victory of the weak over those who seem invincible.
Internationally renowned choreographer Ian Garside reimagines this legendary encounter, drawing inspiration not only from the biblical story but also from Malcolm Gladwell’s famous book David and Goliath: Underdogs, Losers, and the Art of Taking on Giants.
Argentine actor Tomás Pozzi and Ian Garside himself share the stage. Together, they create an unusual fictional world reminiscent of a Victorian Gothic fairy tale, yet closely tied to contemporary reality.
The performance combines contemporary dance, physical theater, humor, expressive visual imagery, and playful absurdity. Its artistic style has been influenced by such outstanding artists and directors as Pina Bausch, Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, Wes Anderson, Tim Burton, and the Monty Python troupe.
Against a backdrop of global conflicts and everyday hostility, this story becomes a tender declaration of love for childhood fantasy, imagination, and creative sensibility.
David and Goliath clash not only with each other. In the course of their confrontation, they are forced to examine their own beliefs, prejudices, and perceptions of themselves.
The production is intended for audiences of all ages and is designed to be accessible and engaging for both regular theatergoers and those who are just discovering contemporary theater and dance.
In a world where many problems seem insurmountable, the performance reminds us that appearances can be deceiving, and that resilience, humility, and imagination can emerge where you least expect them.
Let the battle begin!
