I Come Like a Waterfall, Vertically. An Art-House Performance
About This Event
“I Come Like a Waterfall, Vertically” is an unusual performance by Elena Agafokleous, one of the most distinctive and innovative figures on the contemporary Cypriot stage. The play will be presented in Nicosia for the first time.
At the heart of the story is a person who one day decides to leave their familiar reality behind and dive into a crack. But is it possible to return from a place where the laws of gravity no longer apply, familiar notions of reality vanish, and the boundaries of consciousness cease to exist?
The production is performed in the Greek Cypriot dialect and combines theater, performance art, live music, spoken word, and sound composition.
What the play is about:
The starting point for creating the production was a period of personal and artistic exploration following the pandemic. At the heart of the creative process were questions of vulnerability, the transience of life, and the possibility of physical contact between people.
What began as a personal journey through memories, loss, and unexplored inner spaces gradually evolved into a collective theatrical experience.
Marianna Mikhail’s live music fills the stage, while Agathocleus herself creates an atmosphere that evokes both a ritual and a dream.
However, this peculiar “reverse pilgrimage” leads not to a sacred place, but into the depths of the inner world—where one must confront loss, memory, the desire to return, and the need to once again find a shared space for encountering others.
And somewhere down there, the city continues to live and move.
