Brandy Sour - Stories of a Hotel. A Play

On September 21, an unusual hotel will appear for one evening in the Nicosia Municipal Garden—a place of encounters, chance meetings, love, farewells, and stories closely intertwined with the history of Cyprus.

The performance “Brandy Sour” is a staged reading of Constantia Sotiriou’s novel—winner of the Cyprus State Prize—accompanied by live music.

Imagine the poolside bar at the Ledra Palace Hotel. Two guests meet at the bar. And the drinks—Brandy Sour, mint lemonade, zivania, coffee, ayran, rose tea, and even frozen tears—become the starting point for stories about people whose fates changed along with the island’s history.

The hotel here is not just a monument to the past. It is a living space where Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, foreign guests, and famous people once lived, worked, fell in love, parted ways, and waited.

The story will be told not only through words. Taste, scent, and music will become part of the performance, and for one evening, the Municipal Garden will transform into a space where the past comes to life in a completely unexpected way.

The production was commissioned by the Nicosia International Festival.
