+357 - A Phone Booth Where Stories Are Told
About This Event
From September 12 to November 1, 2026, an unusual art installation will appear in the square near the Nicosia Municipal Theater—a phone booth that looks ordinary at first glance but will become a space for memories, confessions, and human stories.
The +357 project was created by young director Marios Kakoulis and offers a truly unique format for communication: one person, one phone booth, and one voice on the other end of the line.
A visitor enters alone, closes the door behind them, picks up the receiver, and dials a number of their choice. In response, a story plays—each time a new one, genuine and surprisingly personal.
These are stories from people all over Cyprus. Some recount a pivotal moment in their lives; others ask for forgiveness; still others reach out to their inner child. These stories contain memories of pain and joy, fears and triumphs—moments when a person felt like a hero, was at a loss, or, conversely, found the strength to move forward.
And although the voices belong to strangers, they may seem surprisingly familiar.
+357 isn’t just a storytelling project. It’s an attempt to recall what human connection was like before the era of smartphones, video calls, and instant messaging—when a phone call could be a real little mystery, and a stranger’s voice could feel like a whole world.
For a few minutes, you’ll be alone with another person’s story.
No audience. No stage. Just you, the phone receiver, and the voice on the other end of the line.
Beep. Beep. Beep.
The line is busy with stories.
