En Phyē. Concert at the Nicosia Municipal Garden

On September 21, at sunset, the Nicosia Municipal Garden will host an extraordinary musical event—an immersive performance by the vocal ensemble En Phyē.

The ensemble’s name translates as “in the making” or “growing”—and very accurately reflects its artistic concept. It is a living musical practice that draws on ancient and historical traditions but is expressed through a contemporary performance style.

The program will bring together completely different musical cultures: Corsican polyphony, Gaelic psalmody, Byzantine chant, as well as works of medieval mysticism and those by the composer Hildegard of Bingen. Through these, the artists will explore the connections between women’s creativity and the oral spiritual traditions of different peoples.

But this will not be an ordinary concert.

The music will seem to dissolve into the space of the Municipal Garden. The performers’ voices will gently spread throughout the surrounding space, creating the sensation of a unique acoustic aura. Here, the boundary between voice, nature, and listener is blurred.

Audience members are invited to experience the performance in whatever way feels natural: you can sit on the grass, lie down, stroll leisurely through the garden, or simply listen. This is an open, musical, and almost ceremonial space, created for contemplation and for sharing the moment together.

And it’s especially nice that children are welcome too—absolute silence is not required.
