About This Event
The Municipality of Ayia Napa is organising the 1st Fish Festival - “Celebration of the Fisherman and the Liopetri River”, a special event dedicated to the sea, fishermen, fishing traditions and the cultural heritage of the Liopetri Municipal District.
The River is a special landmark. It is a place of unique natural beauty, inextricably linked to the history, traditions and daily lives of the people of Liopetri.
The River is not just a place. It is memories, people, stories and life. It is the fishermen, the boats, the nets, the longlines, the skarka and all those things passed down from generation to generation that are now an integral part of our cultural heritage.
Visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy free fish, along with a variety of seafood flavours and traditional recipes, in a special gastronomic experience.
At the same time, professional fishermen will present their craft live through traditional fishing techniques, such as nets, longlines, skarka and other tools and techniques associated with Liopetri's fishing tradition.
The photography exhibition «The River That Lives in Our Memories» will hold a special place at the Festival. Through rare images and photographs born from the memories and lives of local residents, visitors will have the opportunity to travel back in time and discover a River that is different, yet so familiar.
Interactive sea-themed activities will be held for our young friends, allowing them to discover the marine world in an enjoyable and educational way.
The evening will culminate in a rich artistic programme, including tsiattista, recitations by the Liopetriot Kotrofisimi Voice, island dances and a grand island celebration with Matthaios Giannoulis and Nikos Chaivadakis.
The 1st Fish Festival is a celebration of flavours, music, tradition, memory and the sea, honouring the fisherman, the River and the entire Municipality of Ayia Napa.
Under the auspices of the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Mr Christos Senekis.
