Varosha – The Hostage City: Documentary Screening in Nicosia

Varosha – The Hostage City is a critically acclaimed documentary screening in Nicosia, Cyprus, taking place on Tuesday, 22 September 2026 at the Pantheon Theatre. Directed by Sylvie Deleule, the film won the Best Documentary Award at the Ciné Paris Film Festival in September 2025. Two screenings are available on the same evening — at 8:00 PM and 9:00 PM.

The documentary offers a profound geographical and historical dive into the recent history of Cyprus through its most symbolic paradox: Varosha. Once one of the Mediterranean's most glamorous seaside resorts in the 1960s, Varosha has spent the last 50 years as a ghost town frozen in time under the control of the Turkish army. Through intimate meetings with individuals from both the North and the South of the island, Deleule explores the raw emotional landscape of a divided Cyprus — characters fighting to preserve a disappearing memory and those striving for reconciliation.
