Traditional Food Festival in Maratunda

On October 18, the village of Maratounda invites you to an atmospheric celebration dedicated to Cypriot traditions, local produce, and the island’s culinary heritage.

For one day, a quiet village near Paphos will transform into the scene of a true folk festival. Guests can look forward to farm-fresh produce, homemade delicacies, and traditional Cypriot treats.

At the festival, visitors will be able to sample local olives, halloumi, honey, syrups, and other products; witness traditional cooking methods; and learn about crafts passed down from generation to generation.

Grape-related traditions will take center stage in the program. Visitors will be able to see how grapes were crushed by foot in the old days and learn about the process of making the famous Cypriot zivania.

There will also be palouze—a traditional dessert made from grape juice, prepared in large copper cauldrons right at the festival.

Traditional Cypriot music and folk dances will set the mood. As a result, the festival will be more than just a culinary event; it will offer a genuine introduction to the culture and rural traditions of Cyprus.

The event is perfect for a family outing: you can spend your Sunday outdoors, sample local products, watch traditional crafts being practiced, and experience the atmosphere of a real Cypriot village.

Maratounda is located just about 6 kilometers east of Paphos and has retained the character of a traditional Cypriot village.
