Brandy Sour in Nicosia

The once glamorous but now abandoned Ledra Palace, a building inextricably linked to the modern history of Cyprus, finds its voice again through Konstantia Sotiriou's production «Brandy Sour».

In the garden of Goethe-Institut Zypern, within the Buffer Zone and right beside the historic hotel, Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot actors meet on stage, bridging the present with the past and reconstructing the complex mosaic of Cypriot reality.

Ledra Palace, which once welcomed celebrities, artists, politicians, rebels, soldiers, peacekeepers and negotiators, takes on the leading role it deserves. The stories of the people who lived and worked there, visited it or simply passed outside its gates return to the very place where they were once born.

The narrative unfolds in a bilingual setting, in Greek and Turkish, as well as in the respective Cypriot dialects. Through this shared stage presence, stories of glory, decline, loss and division come to life, creating a production that explores identity, collective memory and the history of the place.

The production is directed by Neoklis Neokleous, with Iliana Kakkoura, Şerife Mersinli, Andriani Neokleous, İzel Seylani, Fotis Fotiou, Christina Christofia and musician Savvas Chrysostomou (Sais) appearing on stage.
