Swiss Model Railway Open Day

Discover a miniature railway world tucked away in an Emba garden. For its third annual open day, the Swiss Model Train Association welcomes visitors to watch working model trains travel through a landscape inspired by Switzerland’s Glacier Express.

The railway occupies a 1,500-square-metre property, with tracks weaving between bridges, tunnels, miniature stations, houses and a church. Following a train around the layout reveals different viewpoints and carefully constructed details, from the engineering of the bridges to the small buildings along the route. It is an opportunity to slow down and enjoy the craftsmanship behind a model landscape brought to life by moving trains.

The layout has been built and maintained by an international team of eight enthusiasts from Cyprus, England, South Africa, Germany and Austria. Their combined skills include technical expertise and carpentry, with careful planning allowing the trains to circulate around the network without colliding.

The atmosphere changes as daylight fades. Illuminated trains, stations and buildings bring a different character to the miniature world, making the evening particularly appealing for visitors who enjoy photography and small-scale detail.

Organised in cooperation with the Paphos Kidney Association, the open day also supports a local charitable cause. Cakes and drinks will be sold to raise funds, and a tombola with Swiss prizes will offer another way to contribute.

The event is aimed at families, especially children, as well as railway enthusiasts and anyone curious about model making. Visitors come to watch the miniature trains in operation; passenger rides are not advertised.

The open day takes place on Sunday, 18 October, from 14:00 to 20:00. Admission is free. Find the venue in maps as RhB Swiss Model Train Emba-Paphos, at 17 Agiou Dimitriou, Emba.
