United Nations Open Day: Games, VR and Workshops

An open day outside Ledra Palace will introduce visitors to the work of the United Nations in Cyprus through games, virtual reality, sport and creative activities. Children, young people and adults will be able to meet UN staff, ask questions and take part in a programme exploring cultural heritage, health, cooperation and peacekeeping.

UNDP’s virtual-reality activity will offer a way to discover the island’s cultural heritage. Visitors will also be able to join a friendly basketball game with peacekeepers, test their memory through Minilingo card games and contribute to a collaborative artwork using reused materials.

Beyond the Divide, an interactive workshop by Voices Across Borders, will bring young people together through games, teamwork and group challenges. Gender in Action will introduce the work of UN practitioners on gender equality and women’s rights. Spin for Peace will combine learning about the UN and the Sustainable Development Goals with opportunities to win prizes.

Programme — Saturday, 24 October

13:00–17:00 — UNDP VR Activity: discover Cyprus’s cultural heritage through virtual reality.
13:00–17:00 — WHO Mobile Clinic: community health outreach involving medical students.
13:00–14:00 — Gender in Action: meet practitioners working on gender equality and women’s rights.
13:00–14:30 — Spin for Peace: an interactive wheel game about the United Nations, UNFICYP, peacekeeping and the Sustainable Development Goals.
14:00 — Welcoming remarks by Khassim Diagne, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative in Cyprus and Head of UNFICYP.
14:00–16:00 — Friendly basketball with peacekeepers near the Fulbright gate. All ages are welcome.
15:00–16:00 — Minilingo: interactive card games led by the Home for Cooperation.
15:00–16:30 — Beyond the Divide: games and teamwork with Voices Across Borders.
15:00–17:00 — Peace Visioning Board: a collaborative art workshop using reused materials, facilitated by KyklOIKOdromio and open to children and adults.

The event will take place outside Ledra Palace in Nicosia’s UN buffer zone. Basketball will be held in the nearby activity area, close to the Fulbright gate.
