About This Event
Japanese artist Chiaki Kamikawa will present a solo exhibition exploring the connections between Japanese folklore, Greek mythology and the Cypriot landscape. Visitors will see paintings, watercolours and textile sculptures in which familiar places and everyday objects are inhabited by imaginary figures and folklore spirits.
Based in Paphos since 2007, Kamikawa draws on her experience of living in Japan, Britain, the Netherlands and Cyprus. Her work is influenced by Japanese animism: the belief that natural elements and objects possess a spirit. Visitors will be able to look for small characters and unexpected details within landscapes, interiors and still-life compositions.
The exhibition will interest visitors who enjoy figurative art, mythology and visual storytelling. Families can also attend the children’s drawing workshop on the final Saturday.
