Kuss Quartet

With its unique approach to music-making, the Kuss Quartet ranks amongst the world's most renowned ensembles. The Quartet has been setting new standards for many years with its ambitious concept-based programming. Its mission is to offer exceptional experiences to traditional audiences and new listeners alike. Since its early beginnings, when it was awarded First Prize by the German Music Council, the Kuss Quartet has developed an international career that has taken it to the world’s most prestigious venues – from New York's Carnegie Hall to Amsterdam's Concertgebouw and Muziekgebouw, from London's Wigmore Hall to Tokyo’s Suntory Hall back to the Philharmonie in Berlin, their home city.

For their return visit to Cyprus as part of the Pharos Arts Foundation’s Concert & Recital Series, the Kuss Quartet will perform three seminal works of the string quartet repertoire: Haydn’s Op.77 No.1 – one of the composer’s final quartets and a work of remarkable energy and invention, Janáček’s tumultuous “Kreutzer Sonata” Quartet, which was inspired by the psychological drama of Tolstoy’s novella, and Schubert’s final String Quartet in G major, D887 – a work that pushes the medium towards an almost symphonic scale, demanding from the four instruments exceptional stamina, precision and control across some of the most technically challenging writing in the repertoire.
