About This Event
Maps, manuscripts, archaeological objects and contemporary art offer different ways of reading an island’s history. These guided visits explore Cyprus Insula: History, Memory, Reality at the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation in Nicosia’s old town. They are scheduled tours of the existing exhibition, giving visitors a focused introduction to its themes and collections.
Curated by Dr Yiannis Toumazis and Demetra Ignatiou, the exhibition is organised around time, place and people. Across five acts, it traces connections between Cyprus’s ancient past, cultural traditions and contemporary life. More than 200 exhibits bring together material from the Foundation and public and private collections, alongside interactive and immersive digital applications.
A particularly rare object is Codex 655, a late thirteenth- or early fourteenth-century manuscript of Ptolemy’s Geography, lent by the Vatopedi Monastery. The exhibition also addresses the island’s difficult recent history, including the events of 1963–1964 and 1974. Historical documents, artworks and digital media provide different perspectives on memory and identity.
Tours take place on Saturdays, 7 November and 12 December 2026. On both dates, the Greek session runs from 10:00 to 11:30 and the English session from 12:00 to 13:30. Participation is free, but places are limited and advance telephone reservation is required: +357 22 128175 or +357 22 128163.
The venue is the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation, 86–90 Phaneromenis Street, Nicosia 1011. Official tour announcement: https://www.boccf.org/en-gb/homepage/exhibitions-actions/exhibitionsevents/kypros-nisos/guided-tours-for-exhibition-cyprus-insula/
