Salt Lake Birdwatching

About This Event
A winter morning by the water offers a different view of Larnaca. BirdLife Cyprus is organising a field trip to the Larnaca Sewage Works bird hide and the salt lakes, led by Melis Charalambides. The outing is open to the public and welcomes both first-time birdwatchers and people who already know their way around a field guide.
Birdwatching involves more than putting names to species. Watching how birds feed, move and respond to their surroundings can be just as absorbing as identifying them. Larnaca’s salt lakes are an important gathering place for wintering waterbirds, although the species seen on any particular morning depend on conditions and the birds themselves.
Bring binoculars if you have them: they make it easier to pick out details at a distance. Comfortable outdoor clothing and water are useful preparations for time beside the lakes. BirdLife’s advice for beginners is to pay attention to sounds as well as movement, and to allow time for observation.
The group meets on Saturday, 12 December 2026, at 09:00, on the salt-lake side of the main road opposite the entrance to Yialos holiday village. Participation costs €10 for non-members and is free for BirdLife Cyprus members and children under 12. Advance registration is required, including for free participants. Book by Thursday evening, 10 December: https://shop.birdlifecyprus.org/en/product/event-bookings/
