About This Event
Three comedies bring different generations and experiences of German-language cinema to Pantheon Theatre in central Nicosia. Presented within the Weeks of the German Language, the screenings offer a chance to see recent films on the big screen, with German dialogue and English subtitles. Admission to all three evenings is free.
On 4 November, 20:30–22:30, Two to One follows friends who discover a hidden store of East German banknotes in the summer of 1990. Their attempt to turn the money into something useful becomes a story about friendship, fairness and the upheaval surrounding German reunification. Natja Brunckhorst directs Sandra Hüller, Max Riemelt and Ronald Zehrfeld.
On 10 November, 20:30–22:30, Thomas Stuber’s The Frog and the Water follows Buschi as he leaves his familiar routine and joins a Japanese tour group. An unexpected friendship develops across language and cultural boundaries. The film carries an age recommendation of 6+.
On 11 November, 20:30–23:00, Simon Verhoeven’s Oh, this unspeakable void follows a young acting student living with his eccentric grandparents. The film received three German Film Awards in 2026.
The venue is Pantheon Theatre, 29 Diagorou Street. The screenings are presented respectively by Goethe-Institut Cyprus, the Embassy of Switzerland and the German Embassy. Goethe enquiries: +357 22 674608, [email protected].
