The Jungle Book in Larnaca

The Cyprus Symphony Orchestra brings to life the enchanting musical score of The Jungle Book (1942) under the direction of distinguished Cypriot conductor Kyriaki Kountouri. Based on five of the nine Mowgli stories from Rudyard Kipling's classic work (1894), this cinematic fantasy adventure inspired one of the most iconic scores of Hollywood's Golden Age, composed by renowned Hungarian-American film composer Miklós Rózsa.

Famous for his music for classic films such as Ben-Hur, Spellbound, El Cid and The Thief of Bagdad, Rózsa masterfully captures the adventurous spirit, fantasy, heroism, humour and mystery of the jungle, artfully combining traditional Indian musical elements with the grandeur of symphonic writing.

The music includes eighteen distinct themes, one for each main character in the story. Through this exceptionally imaginative, almost operatic approach, Rózsa brings vivid life to both the people and animals of the jungle.

The story unfolds in India and is told through the narratives of an elderly storyteller, who recalls the adventures of Mowgli, a boy who grew up in the jungle. Driven by revenge for his father's death at the claws of the fearsome tiger Shere Khan, Mowgli embarks on a journey filled with dangers, discoveries and bravery. Along the way he encounters a lost city, discovers a hidden treasure, saves his village from destruction and, ultimately, chooses the freedom of his beloved jungle.

With the vivid narration of Petros Giorkatzis enriching the experience, this enchanting family concert promises a captivating and unforgettable journey into one of the most beloved cinematic adventures of all time — an experience that will captivate young and old alike.
