THE JUNGLE BOOK - Educational Concerts for Primary Education - CYSO
The Cyprus Symphony Orchestra brings to life the captivating musical score of the film The Jungle Book (1942), conducted by Cypriot conductor Kyriaki Kountouri. Based on five of the nine Mowgli stories from the eponymous classic work by Rudyard Kipling (1894), this cinematic fantasy adventure inspired one of the most iconic scores of Hollywood's Golden Age, written by the leading Hungarian-American film composer Miklós Rózsa.
Renowned for his music for classic films such as Ben-Hur, Spellbound, El Cid and The Thief of Bagdad, Rózsa masterfully captures the adventurous spirit, imagination, heroism, humour and mystery of the jungle, skilfully combining traditional Indian musical elements with the grandeur of symphonic writing.
The score includes eighteen distinct themes, one for each main character of the story. Through this highly imaginative, almost operatic approach, Rózsa brings to life both the people and the animals of the jungle.
The story unfolds in India through the narration of an elderly storyteller, who recalls the adventures of Mowgli, a boy raised in the jungle. Driven by a desire for revenge for the death of his father at the claws of the fearsome tiger Shere Khan, Mowgli sets out on a journey full of dangers, discoveries and bravery. Along the way he encounters a lost city, discovers a hidden treasure, saves his village from destruction and, ultimately, chooses the freedom of his beloved jungle.
Enriched by the live narration of Petros Giorkatzis, this enchanting educational concert offers students an unforgettable journey into one of the most beloved cinematic adventures of all time.
