About This Event
Theatre duet with the work of Marguerite Yourcenar at Pattihio Theatre in Limassol on 12 November 2026 at 20:00. Duration 45 minutes.
The work of Nobel laureate Marguerite Yourcenar is presented as a theatre duet at Pattihio Theatre in Limassol.
"I know about love the little that the eyes that loved me taught me."
After being presented under the summer sky in Nicosia, Phaedo and his teacher Socrates are moved indoors, "autumnal", to the imposing stage of the Pattihio Municipal Theatre of Limassol, as part of the "Great Greek Creators" Festival.
In the collection "Fires", Marguerite Yourcenar, one of the most important writers of the last century, imagines the thoughts, condition and psychological makeup of certain historical or mythical figures and lends them her unique voice. In the piece "Phaedo or the Vertigo" we hear Phaedo, an aristocrat from Elis, recount to Cebes, with whom he was once a follower of Socrates, his glorious youth as an athlete, the moment when Alcibiades, on behalf of Socrates, bought him from the slavery and prostitution of the conquerors, and his apprenticeship in Socrates' "Universe". With the elevated poetry of the Nobel laureate author, the spectator follows Phaedo's account, as his mind and heart chose to keep them, dizzy - constantly - with pleasure, and carved by their sister, grief, having been nurtured by the greatest spirit in the history of humanity.
