    About This Event

Diana Tishchenko, renowned violinist, performs with the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra under conductor Myron Michailidis at Δημοτικό Θέατρο Στροβόλου in Nicosia on 19 November 2026, featuring works by Barber and Tchaikovsky.

The Cyprus Symphony Orchestra is delighted to welcome the outstanding violinist Diana Tishchenko, one of the most compelling performers of her generation, under the direction of its Artistic Director, Myron Michailidis.
Renowned for her authentically distinctive artistic voice, dazzling sound and depth of interpretation, Diana Tishchenko is the holder of the 1st Grand Prix of the legendary Long-Thibaud-Crespin International Competition in Paris, and has been awarded the title of Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the Ministry of Culture of France for her outstanding contribution to the arts.
Few works capture the depth of human emotion with such power as the programme of this concert. Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings is often regarded as one of the saddest and most moving works ever written, which has made it an enduring symbol of collective memory and consolation.
Barber's Violin Concerto combines lyrical elegance with dazzling virtuosity. The first two movements are distinguished by their warmth, tenderness and contemplative beauty, while the explosive finale erupts with relentless energy, placing the soloist at the centre of an exhilarating technical feat.
Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5 is among the most imposing and emotionally charged masterpieces of the composer. The recurring 'fate' motif gives it unity, as the symphony charts a dramatic journey from darkness to light, transforming a gloomy initial idea into a triumphant and powerful conclusion.
