Engraving Workshop

Learn the traditional art of engraving in this free workshop. The workshop is part of the "Heartland of Legends" initiative, which celebrates the traditional crafts and cultural heritage of rural Cyprus.

The event draws inspiration from the Cypriot proverb: "Learn a craft and abandon it, and if you hunger, seize it" — emphasizing the importance of developing skills and creative abilities. Historically, the residents of villages along the "Heartland of Legends" route were primarily farmers and shepherds, but they also mastered various crafts to supplement their income during difficult times.

Traditional Cypriot crafts include basket weaving, icon painting, silversmithing, wood carving, pottery, mosaics, embroidery, winemaking, and many others. These arts are now part of Cyprus's Intangible Cultural Heritage, and the Deputy Ministry of Tourism has developed a program offering visitors and locals the opportunity to participate in experiential workshops.

During these workshops, participants can:

• Feel clay slip between their fingers to create pottery objects
• Learn to use chisels for wood carving
• Take needle and thread to create Lefkara embroidery
• Sit at a loom to weave Phytkiotika fabrics
• Experience the joy of creation with their own hands

All workshops are free and run from May to November 2026. They are open to visitors on Wednesdays, weekends, and public holidays. Advance booking is required — contact the organizer directly for registration. Workshops also run in Christmas villages during the holiday season.
