Giannis Economides

Giannis Economides is a Greek filmmaker born in 1970, widely regarded as one of the most important and uncompromising directors in contemporary Greek cinema. His films — including Matchbox (2002), Knifer (2010), and The Fake One (2013) — are known for their bleak, unflinching depictions of Greek working-class life, dark humour, and powerful performances. A controversial and provocative figure in Greek culture, Economides' work has been screened and presented at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre and Rialto Theatre in Cyprus as part of their cultural programming.
