Iakovos Kambanellis

Iakovos Kambanellis (1921–2011) was Greece's most celebrated playwright and one of the most important figures in the history of modern Greek theatre. A survivor of the Mauthausen concentration camp — an experience that deeply informed his work — Kambanellis wrote plays that explore Greek life, history, and the human condition with exceptional insight and poetic power. His plays, including Courtyard of Miracles, The Neighbourhood of Dreams, and Our Great Circus, are cornerstones of the modern Greek theatrical repertoire and have been performed worldwide. The presentation of his work at the Rialto Theatre in Limassol honours one of the greatest literary and theatrical voices of the Greek-speaking world.
