Anakoutrefko (Ανακουτρέφκω) by Andrea Mavrou makes its world premiere at Flea Market Theatre in Nicosia, Cyprus, on Thursday 30 April 2026 at 20:30. Directed by Anna Giagkiozi, the performance is under the auspices of the Youth Board of Cyprus. Performed entirely in the Cypriot dialect.
Balancing between an existential cry and an urgent call to keep memory alive, the piece follows a single character waiting on a bench — a fiercely poetic critique of modern life. The work interweaves depression and emotional strike, play and memory, with the girl depicted on the Cypriot pound returning as a symbol of identity and collective remembrance. Written and performed by Andrea Mavrou.
Text concept: Andrea Mavrou. Dramaturgical work: Anna Giagkiozi & Andrea Mavrou. Music composition and curation: The Professor. Lighting design: Achilleas Mouskis.
