Jarmusch assembles a remarkable ensemble — Cate Blanchett, Adam Driver, Tom Waits, Charlotte Rampling, Indya Moore, and Vicky Krieps — across a meticulously structured triptych of stories, each set in a different location: New Jersey, Dublin, and Paris. All three revolve around the relationships of adult children with their somewhat distant parents, and with each other. True to his signature style, Jarmusch withholds judgment and simply observes — letting silence carry as much weight as dialogue. The result is a deeply human, tender portrait of family life, laced with understated humour.
