Cooper Curios Duo Concert

The newly formed Cooper Curios duo will perform for the first time at Technopolis 20, presenting their new album.

A few words about the musicians:
After studying in the UK, where he specialized in flute performance, Yassemidis worked as a flutist and trombonist in various ensembles, including Anglia Sinfonia, the ARU Big Band, the Grand Union Orchestra, and as an orchestral musician with the UAE Philharmonic Orchestra.

In Abu Dhabi, Yassemidis taught wind instruments at the Aldar International Schools in the UAE. He currently teaches flute at the European University of Cyprus and music high schools, and is an active performer on Cyprus’s classical, folk, and experimental music scenes. Yasemidis has conducted flute masterclasses in countries including Greece, Lebanon, and the UAE. He is also a member of the multi-award-winning Monsieur Doumani Trio—one of the most successful Cypriot groups on the international scene—with which he has performed throughout Europe, as well as in Cuba and India, promoting the innovative use of wind instruments in Cypriot music.

Eva Stavrou began studying piano and flute in Cyprus. In 2009, she graduated with honors from the Nicosia Music School (Cyprus), after which she continued her studies at Lumière Lyon 2 University and the Lyon Regional Conservatory. She then studied at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, where she earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees with honors in flute and piccolo.

A particular interest in contemporary music led Stavrou to collaborate with various composers and participate in music masterclasses and festivals, such as Escape Art Lab in Romania (2018), New Music Week in Rome (2019), Time of Music in Finland (2019), the Darmstadt Music Festival (2023), as well as Erasmus+ programs in Portugal and Cyprus, where she studied with distinguished composers, including Beate Furrer, Doina Rotaru, and Kaija Saariaho. Stavrou has also performed with orchestras and chamber ensembles in Cyprus, Greece, the UK, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, and Finland.

Eva is convinced of the importance of performers’ involvement in the music-making process. She frequently collaborates with composers such as Briz Katerin, Faidros Kavalairis, and others, creating new works and promoting contemporary music in Cyprus. The duo Plektó (Eva Stavrou—flute, Natasa Hadjiandreou—percussion) aims to popularize the contemporary repertoire for flute and percussion. Her duo with Greek pianist Thalia Papadopoulou—the έtha duet—received funding last year from the i-Portunus program to collaborate with composers Philippe Yurel (France), Diana Rotaru (Romania), and Minas Borboudakis (Germany).

Eva also participates in interdisciplinary projects and has collaborated with DanceHouse Lefkosia (No_body 2020 festival), the Cyprus Theatre Organization, and Onassis Stegi (Onassis Foundation).

Since September 2017, Stavrou has been living in Cyprus, where she teaches flute at the Cyprus Music Schools and the Windcraft Music Center, striving to instill a love of art in her students and introduce them to contemporary music.
