Experience Charlie Chaplin's masterpiece "The Kid" with English and Greek subtitles at a community cinema screening in Nicosia, May 2026. Free entry.
The film runs for 52 minutes and features English and Greek subtitles. "The Kid" was Chaplin's first feature-length film as director from 1921, marking the debut of young Jackie Coogan. This touching story follows the Tramp who adopts an abandoned baby and raises him for five years in poverty but with love.
The film is considered one of the finest of the silent era and was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry in 2011. It was hugely successful and the second highest-grossing film of 1921. The story explores themes of fatherhood, poverty, and unexpected human bonds through Chaplin's masterful storytelling.
A heartwarming tale begins when an unmarried mother leaves her baby in a luxury car, hoping someone will care for it. When the child ends up in an alley, the Tramp finds him and despite initial reluctance, his heart melts upon discovering the accompanying note. Five years later, they survive through small scams but live with genuine affection.
