Lysistrata by Aristophanes: Classic Greek Comedy in Nicosia

Lysistrata by Aristophanes is a theatre production staged at the Lakatamia Municipal Amphitheatre in Nicosia, Cyprus, on Tuesday, 7 July 2026 at 20:30. Produced by Ypogeo Theatriri, this performance brings Aristophanes' timeless ancient comedy to life through an original musical score, striking costumes and set design, presented in Greek without intermission. The performance runs 90 minutes and is suitable for all ages.

The production explores the enduring themes of Lysistrata — gender, class, politics and culture — through the lens of Aristophanic poetry, with peace as its central demand. Lysistrata leads the women of Greece in a bold sexual strike to end an ongoing war, weaving together humour, music and drama to champion the universal blessing of reconciliation.
