A groundbreaking and visually captivating experience awaits audiences at the Pafos Aphrodite Festival 2026. The world-renowned opera L’elisir d’amore (The Elixir of Love) by Gaetano Donizetti is reimagined through a bold contemporary artistic vision, transporting its timeless story into a symbolic and revealing world that promises to enchant and inspire.
This monumental production is the result of an outstanding international collaboration, bringing together the prestigious Alexander Spendiaryan National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet of Armenia, the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra, and distinguished soloists from Armenia and abroad. More than 150 performers, including internationally acclaimed opera singers, musicians, and dancers, will take the stage under the stars at Pafos Harbour Square, in front of the iconic Pafos Medieval Castle, creating an operatic spectacle of exceptional artistic quality and emotional intensity.
L’elisir d’amore is one of the world’s most beloved romantic comic operas. Its enduring story revolves around love, innocence, hope, and the extraordinary power of belief.
The production will be conducted by internationally acclaimed maestro Karen Durgaryan. Having led some of the world’s most distinguished opera houses and symphony orchestras, and serving for fifteen years as Music Director of the National Opera of Armenia, Durgaryan guarantees a performance of the highest musical standard, bringing every nuance of Donizetti’s masterpiece to life.
